A masterpiece from the outside, luxurious inside - why you should see the Armenian Church in Chernivtsi.

The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul is another architectural monument designed by the Czech architectural genius Josef Hlavka, the creator of the pearl of Chernivtsi, the Metropolitan Residence.

The church combines the traditions of the Armenian people with the Gothic, Byzantine, and Romanesque styles of the monasteries of Bukovyna. Glazed bricks were used in the construction, and the building plan has the shape of a Latin cross.

But seeing the shrine from the outside is only half the battle for the curious traveler, as the inside of the building is also very beautiful. The interior of the hall is both majestic and unconventional. As well as in the Gothic style the design is focused on the textures, but in the Armenian church the volumetric elements are painted with golden ornaments and drawings.

Visitors are captivated by the brightness of the colors of the interior decorations. The interior enchants with marble altars and beautiful colorful frescoes. Your attention will certainly be drawn to the pointed windows with colorful stained-glass, where numerous pieces of glass come together to form thematic pictures.

ЦThe detailed painting on the ceiling, depicting saints seemingly floating on clouds, is also intriguing. Additionally, the luxurious gilded chandelier adds an atmosphere reminiscent of a concert hall to the room.

On the spot where a traditional iconostasis is usually located, you will find a large organ specially crafted for this space by Rieger-Kloss in Krnov, Czech Republic. The organ is tuned to produce pleasant sounds for both baroque and romantic music.

The church have extraordinary acoustics, so the sound of the instrument spreads through the space. By the way, the building was originally used as a concert hall (for church singing). And for over 30 years, there is the organ and chamber music hall of the Chernivtsi Regional Philharmonic. If you want to hear the organ, you can find the current concert schedule here
