At the Chernivtsi Tourist Information Center, a special exhibition is being presented to mark the 20th anniversary of World Vyshyvanka Day, which originated in Chernivtsi. The exhibition features recreated vyshyvankas of prominent Bukovynian figures: writer Olha Kobylianska and actor and film director Ivan Mykolaichuk.

Visitors and guests of the city have a unique opportunity to see modern replicas of historical vyshyvankas created as part of the project «Embroidery in the Clothing of Outstanding Ukrainians».

The recreated shirt of Olha Kobylianska is an elegant Bukovynian vyshyvanka in red and yellow tones, decorated with golden sequins and a distinctive ribbon tie at the collar. To recreate the shirt, the project team carefully studied the original garment preserved in the museum. Artisans worked on the reproduction for an entire year, while the embroidery patterns were specially developed to reflect the authentic design as accurately as possible.

The ambassador of the vyshyvanka of prominent Bukovynian writer Olha Kobylianska is Ukrainian theatre and film actress Rymma Zyubina.

A highlight of the exhibition is the recreated vyshyvanka of Ivan Mykolaichuk — an exact replica of the shirt worn by the legendary Ukrainian actor and director in the film Such a Late, Late Autumn («Taka tykha, taka piznia osin»).

The original shirt is preserved in the Mykolaichuk family collection. It was recreated with every detail of the original ornament carefully preserved by artisans Olena Yasinska and Tetiana Zez.

The ambassador of this vyshyvanka is Bukovynian documentary filmmaker and serviceman Oleksandr Tkachuk.

The exhibits presented at the Chernivtsi Tourist Information Center with the support of Lesia Voroniuk, co-founder of World Vyshyvanka Day, not only showcase the beauty of traditional Bukovynian embroidery, but also reveal the deeper meaning of the Ukrainian embroidered shirt as a symbol of identity, memory, and cultural resilience.

Through such artifacts, Chernivtsi once again confirms its status as a city where important Ukrainian traditions are born and preserved.
