Bukovyna and its capital, the city of Chernivtsi, due to its complex and eventful history, has developed as a multinational and multi-religious region, where peacefully coexist representatives of dozens of peoples and religions. That is why a tour of Chernivtsi churches is able to bring us as close as possible to understanding this complex conglomeration of cultures. Such a walk gives the key to unraveling the secret of peaceful coexistence of people of different beliefs and traditions as part of a single community in a fairly small area. Religious tolerance, proclaimed during the rule of Austria-Hungary, is embodied in large and small temples of world religions. Today you can see 79 religious buildings in Chernivtsi. Slender spiers, domes and towers create a unique silhouette of the city, spread out on the high terraces of the right bank of the Prut.
We will visit the most significant and valuable shrines during the tour. We will see the Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, the Armenian Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Nicholas Cathedral, the wooden church of St. Nicholas of the eighteenth century, the Church of St. Paraskeva, the Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Grosshill Synagogue and many small shrines hiding in the city buildings of the small elegant streets of the city. Of course, we will also visit the Church of the Three Saints of the Metropolitan Residence.
The tour lasts 2-3 hours.
