Botanical Garden of Chernivtsi National University
The Botanical Garden of Chernivtsi National University is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Ukraine. It was founded in the second half of the XIX century (in 1877), at a time when Bukovyna as a crown duchy was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The honor of creating the Botanical Garden project was given to the Imperial-Royal Botanical Gardener of Lviv University Karl Bauer. All the saplings of trees and bushes that the park ripples were imported here from Austria from the Muskauer nursery. The foundation of the arboretum under the leadership of Karl Bauer lasted another 11 years. The Botanical Garden of the Imperial-Royal University in Chernivtsi has been the only botanical garden in the Carpathians for 60 years and has become a vivid embodiment of the architectural trends of that period.
The Botanical Garden of Chernivtsi National University is a real museum of living plants from different ecological and geographical areas of the world. The garden is divided into departments of tropical and subtropical plants, dendrology, herbaceous plants and parkland. Plant expositions are planted according to geographical affiliation. Many trees are more than 100 years old. The two tulip trees of the park reach a height of 30 meters and are 150 years old. The garden grows several species of tulip trees and tulips, as well as other flowers that bloom at different times. The botanical garden has its own seed laboratory, herbarium and greenhouse with an area of 525 square meters, which has 920 species of tropical plants. It is best to visit the botanical garden in the spring, when the sun warms, the air is filled with delicate aromas of flowers, and greenery is bright and fresh. In the spring you can enjoy the blooms of magnolias, tulips, lilies of the valley and other flowers.
