Palace of Justice
The monumental townhouse was built in the early twentieth century by architect Francis Skowron. The breathtaking building is a typical example of the classicism style, which depicts the motif of an Italian Renaissance palace.
The main facade of the Palace of Justice is decorated with statues of the ancient goddess of justice Themis and the goddess of retribution Nemesis, as well as majolica inserts with flowers and inscriptions in Latin "Lex", which is translated as "Law". The plaster lions that adorn the parapets today are just copies. The real sculptures were marble, with engraved commandments of God on the left and Latin inscriptions on the right. According to legend, lions with cartouches in their paws protect everyone who enters the house from lies and harm.
Currently, the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration is located in the "house with lions". The large-scale building is impressive in size - 89 by 45 meters, inside which are hidden two courtyards. All the people want to stop near the former Palace of Justice and look closely at each brick, ceramic tile and sculpture.
