Chernivtsi Palace
The first thing that draws the attention of a traveler who arrived by train to Chernivtsi is the railway station. For more than a century, this building has been one of the city's hallmarks, creating its architectural face. Previously, railway stations were called "Palace" and such a name fits Chernivtsi station.
The building is made in the Art Nouveau style, which was popular in the architecture of the last century. The Palace in Chernivtsi was built in the last "golden decade" of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and became one of the largest and most refined not only in Western Ukraine, but in the whole empire. The main decoration of the exterior of the station is a statue of the messenger goddess Iris. The raised hand symbolizes the friendly reception of the city's guests and a farewell to them. On both sides, Iris is surrounded by four angels: one couple holding flowers, the other two are depicted with arrows. These angels represent the hospitality of the locals. The interior of the station is no less beautiful than its facade. Exquisite chords of white and light green colors are complemented by gilding. The interior of the box office is decorated with plant fragments, mascarons and wheels made in Art Nouveau style.
Today, the gates of the Palace are met and seen off by thousands of people every day. To say goodbye to each train sounds a gentle Bukovynian melody, which the city wishes a happy journey to its residents and guests.
