The tour takes place on the territory of the historical and cultural reserve of Christian and Jewish cemeteries, which are located on thr top of Mount Horech, on the outskirts of Chernivtsi.
Chernivtsi necropolis is an impressive monument to the history of the city. The Jewish cemetery in Chernivtsi is considered to be the largest surviving Jewish cemetery in Europe. The area of this necropolis with museum status is over 14 hectares. Almost 50,000 members of the Jewish community of Chernivtsi are buried here. Among them are public, political figures, writers, poets, intellectuals, those who have made a significant contribution to the political, economic and cultural life of the city.
Visitors will be amazed by the artistic tombstones that testify to the artistic tastes of the citizens of the past era. The graves of different famous people are interesting for reviews, such as writers Yu. Fedkovych and O. Kobylianska, fabulist E. Steinberg, composer S. Vorobkevych, chapel of Bukovynian metropolitans, burial of prelate I. Schmidt, doctor V. Zalozetsky, educator A. Pumnul. Tombstones on the graves of mayors A. Kokhanovsky and E. Rais also attract the attention of visitors.
The entrance to the reserve is from Zelena Street. The tour lasts 1-1.5 hours.
